DIY Wall-Mounted Florals

This post has been a long time coming... and I have no excuse. Just kinda keep forgetting about it!

I picked up this beautiful, hand painted sign from a local shop here, The Found Cottage. If you live near Grand Rapids and you haven't had the pleasure of visiting this little piece of heaven, you're missing out.

I knew as soon as I saw it, that I wanted it to be the basis of my room re-decoration and I wanted it to be a focal point.

As stunning as it is on it's own, I wanted to add my own flare to it.

I was inspired by the beautiful florals in the sign, and wanted to keep with the theme, so off to Hobby Lobby I went, to bring my vision to life.

For this project, I went with florals the resembled the ones in the painting. I chose a Magnolia floral garland and this frosted Eucalyptus garland. Then I picked out a few little stems to add some more texture. The wire mesh is something my Dad had left over from another project but I linked some similar stuff, here. Some floral wire, scissors and wire cutters round out the materials and tools.

I started out by deciding how big I needed the mesh pieces and where I would start attaching the flowers. I just held the pieces up to the sign and marked the places I needed to cut and where I needed to start attaching pieces with a marker.

Then I began attaching pieces. I started with the biggest parts first, and then filled in the bare spots with some of the eucalyptus and magnolia leaves.

I began by running a piece of wire across the base of the flowers or stems and down between the wire mesh.

Then I secured it by twisting the wire tightly to the mesh. Very professional, I know. I trimmed up the excess floral wire, just so nothing would peek out or cause any trouble when mounting it to the wall.

Once I got all the holes filled in and the pieces of mesh looking how I wanted, it was time to attach them.

Now you might have a better way of doing this, since it isn't exactly "wall-friendly". But these old walls will need another coat of paint eventually anyway and I've never been afraid of a little Spackle.

I just went at the mesh with a staple gun and this is the option that worked best for me. It gives you a very secure hold, without compromising the look of the florals.

And here we are at the end! I am so happy with the texture that it add to this wall and the flare it adds to this, already beautiful sign!

Please be sure to share with me if you recreate this fun project on Instagram @littlemittengirl. I would LOVE to see it!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!
Until next time,
Little Mitten Girl.
